A single gold fish can’t survive in a fish bowl but in fact needs a filtered fish tank which can hold at least 75ltrs of water. The bigger the tank, the bigger the surface area which helps in circulation of oxygen in the tank than CO2.
A single gold fish not only needs a fish tank but also needs correct pH and temperature to live. The ideal pH for gold fish is 7.2-7.4. Any sudden or continuous changes in pH level can harm your goldfish. And the temperature should be between 21 to 24 °C (69.8 to 75.2°F) for gold fish to grow strong and healthy.
Gold fish even poops a lot. So maintaining ammonia, cleaning must be done regularly. No ammonia is good for any fish, so half of the tank water must be changed at least once in week and a full tank cleaning must be done once in a month. Also, too much of chlorine in fish tank, can damage your fish’s health. It is best maintaining the chlorine amount below 1mg/l.
Also, a single gold fish can’t survive alone; they need some companion with them. Otherwise they can die due to depression caused by loneliness. Gold fishes are quite friendly, so they can be kept with other fishes like guppies or of their own kind. Never pair goldfish with fishes which tend to be aggressive and territorial.
